Home Buyer Success Story - Coping with high home prices in Santa Cruz

HOME BUYER SUCCESS STORY - ONE WAY TO COPE WITH HIGH HOUSING PRICES IN SANTA CRUZ - FINDING A HOME WITH A GUEST UNIT HELPS THIS FAMILY BUY A HOME!

Anyone who has been paying attention to the housing market in Santa Cruz know that rents are at an all time high and home sale prices are reaching pre-recession peak levels again. Some families are getting creative in order to find ways to make Santa Cruz their forever home.

I recently had the pleasure of working two couples in the purchase of a home in Soquel.  The younger couple were first time home buyers and they were going to go in on a place with their parents who were moving to Santa Cruz to retire.  By putting their resources together they were able to afford much more of a home and property.  The parents were able to bring in a large downpayment from the sale of their home in Northern California and the young couple was able to qualify for the mortgage to cover the rest of the cost of the price of the home.

The two couples did not want to share just one home and one kitchen so we began looking for homes that had guest quarters or a 'granny unit'.  Properties like these are fairly common in Santa Cruz county and there are opportunities to find multi residential properties in all neighborhoods.  Visit here to see a list of all the homes for sale with a guest unit that are available now.

We searched in most areas of Santa Cruz County, from Ben Lomond, to Santa Cruz, Soquel and Aptos.  They eventually decided they wanted to be in a good walking location so that the parents did not have to drive as much and be able to get out and enjoy local restaurants and shops and meet their neighbors.  We ended up finding the perfect place for them in Soquel that had dual living areas with a beautiful garden, water feature and lots of sun.

When working with 2 couples of different generations it can be a challenge to find a property that fits everyone's needs - but I enjoy a challenge and the satisfaction of helping both couples find a place in Santa Cruz that they can call their forever home.

This is what those clients had to say about their experience working with me as their Realtor:

"Jessica Wallace helped our family find the perfect house that fit all our requests, and we had a lot. Jessica was professional, friendly and accessible. She was available to answer our questions and guided us excellently at every turn. Highest marks!'

I love working with buyers and first time home buyers and I understand the challenges they face in this market.  I truly believe that with the cost of rent in Santa Cruz soaring, if you want to live here long term it makes sense to purchase a home.   You can contact me at 831.419.9345 or yoursantacruzagent@gmail.com with all of your questions and I will be happy to help you.

I always say that knowledge is power and why not know what you qualify for and if you can afford a home in Santa Cruz - at least you know one way or the other and also what you would need to do in order to purchase a home.  Many people have found out that owing a home in Santa Cruz is a lot more attainable that they would have thought.

If you are a first time home buyer there are programs that can help you too,  Check out my post First Time Home Buyer Programs in Santa Cruz.
