House Hunting in the Wintertime

House Hunting in the Wintertime

Let's face it, being a potential home buyer in Santa Cruz county and the Bay Area has not been easy this year.  You have been faced with a limited number of homes for sale, multiple offer scenarios, over bidding, challenges obtaining financing . . . It is easy to lose heart when shopping for a home in this environment, we all understand that.  If you are serious about buying a home, this winter could be a great opportunity for you.

First of all, the number of buyers in the marketplace should be a bit less.  With kids back in school and work in full swing, many buyers take a break until the Springtime.  Typically there are less homes on the market during the Wintertime but here is the important thing to note:  Any person that has their home on the market during the holidays and in the dead of winter is serious about selling their home.  You don't put your home on the market during this time of year unless you really do need to sell it.  What that means for a buyer is that you many find a seller that is willing to negotiate and you may face less competition to get that house.

Interest rates are still low, and they are expected to rise in 2015.  If I was thinking of buying a home I would start to search in earnest this winter, you may just find your early Christmas present - a new home.

I have a couple of buyers that have been shut out until now, but hopefully after the Holidays, they will get the house they deserve

Hello Jessica ... wonderful write and I know how busy the Bay Area is with all the construction because I am a glazier (Glass Installer). Vegas Bob will be headed that way soon to either work in downtown SF and or the (New) Apple Project.

Homes are very expensive and great deals are hard to find! But if I stay in the the Bay Area for 1-2 years, I may be interested in purchasing a small condo

Jessica, I hope a lot of serious buyers will get in touch with you despite of the winter season's challenges. Buyers, stay positive!
