SANTA CRUZ KITCHEN REMODEL - BEFORE & AFTER
As a Realtor, I see beautiful homes everyday as well as some major fixer uppers. In Santa Cruz we have a lot of older homes that could benefit from upgrading and I have sold many homes that need to be remodeled or worked on.
Having recently completed a kitchen remodel on my own home I now understand the thought and work that goes into remodeling a home. So many decisions to be made i.e. paint colors, hardware, tile, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, lighting, trim, accent pieces . . . it goes on and on and the decisions you need to make daily are endless. After awhile you might be tempted to settle and just go with it because you are tired of making so many decisions. (It took us about 2 weeks and visits to 10+ granite yards to find the right slabs). Luckily for me the contractor/man of the house had a clear vision for our kitchen and would not compromise. Yes it was a tiring process and not having full use of your kitchen for many weeks is tough but the end result I could not be happier with.
Our home is a Craftsman Style home in Santa Cruz and we wanted to make sure the kitchen went with the style of the home. We wanted an elegant, clean design that still exudes the warmth of our Craftsman home.
Here is how it turned out!
Before: We had linoleum flooring and white Formica countertops, lovely!
After: The floor we chose is a broken edge travertine floor laid out in a French Pattern style. The countertops are a Colonial Gold with ogee bullnose edging.
Before: The cabinets were possibly original and pretty beat up over the years.
After: We used the same kitchen cabinets but added trim pieces, new hardware and painted them with Swiss Coffee. The contractor had a great idea of cutting out some of the upper cabinets and making the glass fronts with the lighting. This really gave the kitchen an extra elegance.
Before: The backsplash and hood
After: The contractor did a frame with tile inset to set off the stove backspash. The hood went with our craftsman style design and I loved the addition of the corbels.
Before: The hallway to the bathroom
After: We added extra cabinets that were built in place by the contractor. He also built a larger window sill and we were able to store the microwave there instead of in the kitchen. The cabinets under the window work great to store items for our dog.
Before: The peninsula island in the kitchen was set up as 2 levels with a higher bar counter height
After: We cut the island down so it was all one height which really opened up the kitchen and made a large counter space for an eat-in kitchen
The kitchen remodel turned out better that I could have ever imagined and we will enjoy it for years to come. Definitely worth the time, money and effort!
