How do Santa Cruz Home Prices Compare to California Home Prices

HOW DO SANTA CRUZ HOME PRICES COMPARE TO CALIFORNIA HOME PRICES?

If you are looking to buy a home in Santa Cruz you will find a wide variety of home prices within Santa Cruz county, there are homes for sale from $250,000 up to multi million dollar homes in Santa Cruz county.  

When you look at California home prices as a whole, how do Santa Cruz home prices compare?

Santa Cruz Home Prices Compared to Silicon Valley and San Francisco

Santa Cruz is a coastal community set in a geographically stunning location and close to the major economic hub of Silicon Valley and San Jose.  That is why home prices in Santa Cruz are higher than many other counties in California.  But if you compare Santa Cruz with communities in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, boy do we look like a good deal!

The median home price in Santa Cruz in November 2013 was $663,000.  Compare that with the median home price in San Francisco:  $896,000 and Santa Clara:  $782,000  Home prices in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco areas went up big time in 2013, which in turn trickled down to Santa Cruz where our home prices went up by 20% + in some areas.

Home Prices in Santa Cruz compared with other California Coastal Counties

Let's compare Santa Cruz with other coastal communities.  The median home price in Monterey was $440,000, keep in mind this includes Salinas with is more of an agricultural community and has pretty low home prices.  The median home price in Santa Barbara was $558,000 and the median home price in Santa Diego was $473,000.  

Lowest Priced Homes in California

Some of the lowest priced real estate in California you will find in the Central Valley in places like Merced where the median home price is $151,500 and Fresno's median home price is $193,000.

Lowest & Highest Priced Homes in Santa Cruz

In Santa Cruz county some of our lowest priced real estate is in the San Lorenzo Valley and Watsonville.  As you would expect the beach location like Westside Santa Cruz, Pleasure Point, Capitola and Rio del Mar are home to the higher priced real estate in our area.

Where are Santa Cruz Home Prices Heading? 

Depending on your perspective Santa Cruz home prices either look like a great deal or are way too high. The fact is that Santa Cruz will always be a desirable area because of the beach, weather, UCSC, beautiful setting and wonderful community.  Being located next too one of the largest economic hubs in the world, Silicon Valley, does not hurt either and that is driving our home prices up.  If you plan on making Santa Cruz your forever home it is wise to see what your options are, get pre-qualified and see what your real numbers are.
